Single tier metal lockers are probably what come to mind when you picture a typical locker from your school days, where you stashed your books, gym shorts and sappy love letters to and from your high school crush. These are the most common type of metal locker as well as the most practical because they are tall--and thus provide full-length storage for bags, clothing and coats with convenient interior hooks located at the back and sides. Each also has an upper shelf to store smaller items such as books, phones, lunches and other valuables. Though typically attached to the thought of crowded hallways and locker rooms, these are ideal for use in more than just schools--you can also commonly find them in factories, gyms, hospitals, offices, warehouses, mines and really anywhere there is a need for full-length, secure storage. We avoid acquiring units that have been built to a lower quality standard and are missing key elements that make them secure--we only offer ones that have been engineered for years of maintenance-free, heavy duty use.
These are the features you will find in most of our used standard single tier metal lockers:
- DOORS: 16 gauge metal doors and 16 gauge reinforced welded channel frames--these are as durable as they come. Doors are highly important, as they take on the most use and abuse and contain all of the moving components that can wear down from repeated use over the years. We inspect and replace or repair each and every moving part of our used locker doors to restore them back to smooth operation, so they open and close easily and flawlessly.
- SHELVES: One sturdy upper shelf is included in each to store items including books and other personal belongings. Some may have an extra shelf or two shelves--any variations from the standard will clearly be noted in the description of each of our listings.
- HANDLES: Either a protruding lift-type handle or stainless steel recessed handles with a lift tab, both of which will include an eyelet for padlocks
- HANGING FEATURES: Enough vertical space to hang clothing full-length as well as other belongings such as backpacks, gym bags or purses. Most lockers that are 18" or deeper come with a full-width coat rod that will hold hangers to keep your uniforms, suits and other garments in pristine condition--allowing you to dress to impress at your next VIP event or meeting.
- HOOKS: One double prong hook below the upper shelf and two single prong wall hooks for convenient hanging of clothing, bags and more
- LOCK OPTIONS: Accept multiple lock types--built-in combination locks, built-in key locks, coin-operated locks, combination padlocks, digital locks and keyed padlocks. There are some that were originally made to accept only one type of locker lock, either the built-in style or padlocks. Those that only accept one type of lock will clearly be noted and indicated.
- BASES: Most of the lockers we acquire were previously installed on concrete or wood bases and don't have legs. Although they do have a solid 1" frame underneath them, we recommend providing them with some sort of additional base to keep them elevated and protected from the elements and also allowing for easier access to contents stored inside. Bases that are 4" high are by far the most common height, and either a concrete curb, metal base or wood base would be the most practical base material.
- VENTILATION: Louvers or vents punched in the doors provide adequate ventilation for most situations. (Looking for a higher degree of ventilation or the ability to visually inspect contents? Browse through our Gym Lockers category where you will find lockers with mesh doors or perforations for maximum air flow.)
- NUMBER PLATES: Most come with number plates, but they probably won't be in sequence. If you would like yours to be numbered consecutively, we can provide or install new numbers in sequence for a minimal upcharge. Keep in mind that if we do install the number plates prior to shipment, you will need to set your lockers in the proper order upon arrival.
- LATCHING: Secure three-point latching helps prevent prying and keeps your patrons' belongings safe. (We do sell some that have single-point latching, but these will have premium double pan doors that are reinforced by an additional pan that is welded to the full inside space of the door flanges. This ensures maximum rigidity, preventing any flexing and providing a very high level of security while incorporating a single-point latching system that has less components and operates more quietly.)
- HINGES: Either continuous piano hinges or three heavy duty, double spun, full loop, tight pin, five-knuckle hinges
- CONTINUOUS DOOR STRIKES: Full-length door stop flanges prevent damage to latches and frames from repeated door slamming
- PAINTING: All units will either be originally coated in a durable baked enamel or powder coated premium paint process that provides an attractive, long-lasting and scratch-resistant finish.
- QUIET FEATURES: Multi-point latching doors will have nylon glides and rubber bumpers to minimize noise and provide smooth operation. Double pan doors contain rubber bumpers at contact points and are already quiet in the fact they do not contain any moving or rattling parts.
NOTE: Any upgraded features or exceptions to the specifications listed above will clearly be indicated on the specific listing.
